User Guide
Making the Most of the map-TV browser window.
The standard map-TV interface uses three frames. Many users are not aware that they can
drag on the bars between them to resize each frame.
If, for example you are not interested in controlling themes but want to pick from long
lists of search results, you should resize the two right hand frames until only the lower one is visible.
If map-TV has been configured for large maps and your screen is small you may want to make the map frame larger
(or if you are using Internet Explorer TM 4+ hit the FullSceen button on the browser toolbar).
Searching
Searching is easy using map-TV. Just type the name or number of the place you want to search for into the Find box and hit enter.
You can search on the following information: Addresses, Road Names, Legal
Descriptions, Assessment Numbers, Hydro Names, Survey Plan Numbers, Topo feature
Names, and Reserve Purpose.
- If you do not check the Exact checkbox map-TV will find any places that start with the letters you entered.
- If a single match is found map-TV will map it automatically and zoom to that
feature.
- If multiple matches are found for the text you entered (non exact searches) map-TV will prompt you to choose
one, when you click on the one you want map-TV will zoom to that feature.
- Note that there is a limit on number of matches that are returned therefore
you may need to refine your search.
- If multiple places have the same name, map-TV will usually map all of them, unless it has been configured to map only the first.
- You can use a wildcard search eg:*dp 4567 will return all properties with DP
4567 in their legal description, and *brown will return all occurences of the
word Brown
- Note that the search criteria is not case sensitive

map-TV Themes
- Standard themes can be thought of as map layers but actually may be comprised of several layers that are
displayed or hidden depending on the current scale. For example a Theme called Roads might be comprised of
a Main Roads layer for display when zoomed out, and All Roads for display when zoomed in.
Controlling Standard Themes and Labels
The Theme List displays in the Right Upper frame and can be considered the table of Contents for the map.
Each Theme has a checkbox to control whether it is drawing, and possibly a dropdown list of Label fields.
If a label field dropdown does not appear, that theme has been configured to either
not have labels, or have a default label field.
- Most Themes have default labels set eg: Legal Description is the default
label for Land Parcels
- To Label a Theme choose a label field from the dropdown list.
- To turn off labelling, choose None or No Label from the dropdown list.
Whenever you change whether themes are drawing, or their label fields you will need to
Refresh the map to see the results.
Note that the map layers that comprise a theme may be configured to be scale dependent.
If you select a Label field or turn on a Theme but do not see any changes when you Refresh the map,
the Theme (and/or its Labels) may not be visible until you zoom in.
